When is International Women’s Day?
Every year, International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8th. The day is all about celebrating the successes and challenging the injustices of women around the world. Of course, challenging injustices against women would take up far more than one day of the year but International Women’s Day is still an important way of amplifying the voices of women and helping to provide a step in the right direction.
Each International Women’s Day features its own theme. In 2023, the theme is #EmbraceEquity. The focus is on gender equity, and how it needs to be part of every society’s DNA. Everybody must embrace equity to help create a fair and more equal world for all. Each one of us can play an active role in supporting and embracing equity within our own sphere of influence, too.
We can do this by challenging gender stereotypes, drawing attention to bias, confronting discrimination, and seeking out inclusion. Collective activism promotes change, and that is what International Women’s Day in 2023 is all about.
International Women’s Day colours
Not only is there a theme for International Women’s Day, but there are also colours attributed to it. The colours for this famous day - which started in 1908 - are purple, green, and white. If you’d like to celebrate and recognise this special day, try to wear the colours on March 8th too!
The official International Women’s Day website states: “Purple signifies justice and dignity. Green symbolises hope. White represents purity, albeit a controversial concept.”.

As we recognise women inspiring women on International Women’s Day, we thought it would be best to focus on the driving force behind NADINE MERABI. It comes from two incredible women: Blue Wilson and Nadine Merabi. These two fabulous individuals come together in perfect harmony with business, design, and entrepreneurial ingenuity.
MERABI’s creative director, Nadine Merabi, is a self-taught seamstress and businesswoman who places a heavy emphasis on women inspiring women and making them feel confident when wearing her pieces. Using only the finest quality fabrics, Nadine ensures that her clothes are created to be cherished, collected, and adored.
Nadine Merabi was born to a British mother and Lebanese father and has since taken the clothing industry by storm with show-stopping sequin and feather-embellished dresses, jumpsuits, co-ords, and more since the brand’s inception in 2016.
The managing director of NADINE MERABI is Blue Wilson. Blue has always had a passion for business after entering the working world aged 12 in an admin job. This set her up with a strong sense of determination to grow and climb the ladder of success.
Now, with over a decade of experience in the fashion e-commerce sector building and driving global brands, Blue is the co-founder and managing director of MERABI. Every day, she imports her expertise in fashion and business to the rapidly expanding brand.
