Finance Director

Role:Finance Director 

Function:Foundation | Finance 

Responsibility:Be the strategic leader for the business across all enabling functions (Finance, Insight, Tech, People & Operations)

Reports to:Managing Director

Location:Manchester Head Office  

Compensation:Up to £120K

To help deliver this vision Nadine partnered with Blue Wilson, with over 10 years of experience building multi-million pound global DTC brands with a focus on eCommerce. Nadine and Blue have grown MERABI from £2m in revenues in 2020 to £16m in 2021 and they have ambitious objectives to delight millions of clients in the UK and internationally over the next decade.

Where the Finance Director / Financial Controller fits:

As the Finance Director, you will report to the Managing Director andtake responsibility for activity within Finance and be a strategic leader within the organization to ensure we satisfy the incredible global demand we are experiencing.In the short to medium term we need you to lead and enhance our Operations, Technology & People functions and until newly hired Directors take over these areas in the next 18 - 36 months.

For the right candidate, there’s scope to retain leadership of these functions and progress to CFO / COO role if you and the business hit their objectives over the next 2-3 years. It would be ‘yours to lose’.

Main Accountabilities: 
FINANCE 

  • Establishing targets, developing budgets, and performing financial analysis.
  • Technical financial projects to deliver liaising closely with the Directors. Work with the Managing Director and SLT on setting the near, medium, and long-term strategic vision of the business and setting short, medium and long term goals for scalable growth alongside our executive team to increase revenues and profits
  • Oversee the financial strategic planning of the company by evaluating its performance and potential risks.
  • Perform regular financial analysis
  • Manage all aspects of corporate governance & compliance including business /employers insurance, GDPR, and regular / ad hoc legislative requirements
  • Develop budgets that meet the requirements of company departments
  • Establish targets and manage all accounting and finance employees including management accountants and internal auditors.
  • Supervise all audit and internal control processes
  • Prepare detailed reports on the company’s financial performance.
  • Guarantee compliance with financial laws and guidelines
  • Recognise patterns in company spending, revenue, and recommend solutions to any problem areas.
  • Coordinate with external financial entities on behalf of the company
  • Positively impact and influence internal stakeholders and external partners
  • Maintain relationships with insurance providers, ensuring the business is fully covered according to the details of the contract
  • Leading all financial planning and analysis (FP&A), including forecasting, budgeting, and cash flow management, reporting against forecasts and responding proactively
  • Ensuring compliance with, and accurate reporting of taxes including PAYE / NIC, VAT, Corporation Tax, Global Sales Taxes, Customs & Duties
  • Management of all commercial IP such as trademarks
  • Full management of key operational third-party contracts including but not limited to IT & ERP
  • Uphold the company brand  and the company Values & Behaviours

OPERATIONS

  • Work collaboratively to develop and/or improve systems, processes, controls, and procedures  that improve the overall efficiency of the business 
  • Oversee strategies and execution of all supply chain operations, logistics and fulfilment
  • Warehouse management (contract, relationship, SLA, process, systems & security) including the delivery of future upgrades / partnerships
  • Evaluate and improve standards for supply chain, and overall business operations to minimize costs and maximize margins

TECHNOLOGY

  • Ensure MERABI has the right tools / tech at the right time, for internal users alongside external clients / users
  • Ensure all tools / tech are compliant to relevant laws / regulations

PEOPLE

  • Lead our people plan, identify hiring needs and lead recruiting processes 
  • Work interdepartmentally with department heads and take responsibility to facilitate effective execution and make sure nothing ‘falls through the cracks’ especially which such a strong growth rate
  • Establish and encourage policies that promote company culture and vision 
  • Oversee Health & Safety ensuring the business is fully compliant at all time and lead the team to ensure any new H&S legislation is implemented appropriately and any H&S concerns are handled swiftly

Skills & Experience:

You will have a deep experience in e-commerce, an entrepreneurial spirit, luxury product sensibility, excellent analytical skills and the ability to lead all operational & financial aspects of a rapidly growing luxury brand is essential. Our ideal candidate is a self-motivated, passionate, performance-driven individual with a strategic mindset.

You have:

  • 10+ years in leading operations for a global SME, including multi-discipline business functions such as People, Finance and Logistics
  • Proven success in people leadership
  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA)
  • 5+ years of experience in eCom ideally on the Shopify platform

You are:

  • Strong communications skills, including good written English and the ability to confidently explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders

  • Confident, assertive, and proactive, with the ability to build rapport and effectively communicate with people at all levels.
  • You will be determined to go the extra mile to achieve results
  • Ability to demonstrate tact and discretion in preparing, disclosing, and handling information of a confidential nature
  • Advanced MS Excel and IT skills (familiarity with graphs, VLOOKUPS and Pivot tables)
  • Experience in managing senior stakeholders and applying a commercial mindset
