Firstly, Pierpaolo Piccioli’s autumn/winter 2022 ready-to-wear Valentino show was the green light for pink as the designer worked with Pantone to create a bespoke hot pink shade. Clearly extremely pleased with the colour produced, Piccioli used it across the entire collection in a monochrome effect. It was a major success with stars from Anne Hathaway to Zendaya moving with haste to wear pieces straight from the catwalk.
The second, which also hints at a long-lead timeline for pink, is the news that Margot Robbie had signed up to play the original pink princess, Barbie, in Greta Gerwig’s much anticipated movie releasing later this year. As to be expected with Gerwig at the helm, it’s believed to be a fresh, feminist take that’s sure to offer a revitalised context for pink to thrive in.
